How to Build a Swamp Cooler

By on August 1, 2013

If you’re not familiar with what exactly a “swamp cooler” is, it’s basically a form of DIY air-conditioning. But instead of using coolant and compressors, this “evaporative” cooling system simply uses water to cool the air. You can make them out of coolers, box fans, etc. The beauty is that, since the technology is so basic, you can get very creative in your own design.

This graphic displays all of the pieces you need. Though it’s more elaborate than most.

Swamp coolers are great for off-the-grid living because:

- They require very little electricity
- They can be made using re-purposed parts
- The require almost no maintenance

Wow! Impressive! It’s really DIY stuff. The instructtions sound easy to follow yet somewhat complicated. There’s still the radiator that we have to make and the last part. Anyway, there are people interested in DIY stuff and this is actually affordable since you’re dping it yourself. I think it’s worth a try.
